Who We Are
Jalan Steel Group of Companies
We are the Jalan Steel Group of Companies — a family-run business group with over 65 years of deep roots in India's steel distribution industry. Our flagship and oldest entity, Mechanical Engineering Industries (MEI), is one of Eastern India's most established authorised distributors of SAIL products, founded in Kolkata in 1960.
Under the Jalan Steel Group, our sister concerns — Indian Wire & Steel Products, Jalan Steel, and Jalan Projects & Merchants Pvt. Ltd. — are all engaged in the same trade, collectively forming one of the most integrated steel distribution networks in Eastern India.
MEI maintains 7,000+ tons of ready stock across five strategic delivery points in West Bengal — Dankuni, Shalimar, Durgapur and Kolkata — enabling fast, seamless supply of TMT & Rebars, Angles, Channels, Beams, Plates, Chequered Plates, Wire Rods, HR Coil — a complete basket of SAIL products.
MEI holds the distinction of being among the highest SAIL offtakers in Eastern India, and is an official distributor of both SAIL NEX Structurals and SAIL SeQR TMT.
